I volunteered to work a table for SCORE at a local event recently. There I met two people from Vast Industries. Yvette Archula-Tudury handed me a card that made me realize she knew how to market herself differently to stand out and be memorable and set apart from her competitors. The front of the card has all of the vital information - logo, name, contact details, and certifications. It is nicely branded with the company colors. When your business card is one of the first things people associate with you, it is an important part of your marketing plan. I can see this logo working well on social media profile pictures.
But the front of the card is not what grabbed my attention. It was what was on the back of the card that made me talk to Yvette in detail. I wanted to know more about her and her company just after looking at the card.
Attached to the card was a scrap of a part they created for someone. It was going in the trash! With just a simple inch of double stick tape, they took what was waste and turned it into a conversation piece. People asked more about her and her company.
One of the last email marketing campaigns I sent out included a countdown to the time of the event. I had many people ask me about it later. It was different and helps people notice more information.
One of my first promotional items I handed out at events was a butterfly magnet. I made them of items I got at the dollar store. It was a simple picture of a butterfly, glue, a flat glass pebble and a magnet. I still have people tell me they have it on their fridge.
So what are you doing to stand apart? Are you sending emails with rich content that give people information they need? Are you posting fun and different social media posts? Are you creating videos? Links to this blog are posted to all of my social media - comment on the platform of your choice.
