Some of my clients mention that they would like to do a mailer. If it meets their goals, then I refer them to someone who can help them accomplish that. My main method to stay in touch with my clients is my email marketing. I think it has the best return on my investment.
One method of "snail mail" marketing that I do use is Send Out Cards. Using this website, I can create branded thank you cards that I personalize to send out. When I get a referral, when I get a new contract or when I see someone got a promotion it is easy to jump on the app or laptop and choose and send a card. I don't have to buy stamps or have cards in stock. It means enough to many who receive the cards to write a quick email acknowledging the card or even a phone call.
One part of the service I really love is the ability to have contact's birthdays listed. I get an email reminder that a birthday is coming (or an anniversary etc.) I can set up a card to be sent that is very personal - usually even with my own pictures on it. There is even a way to automate sending birthday cards. Who doesn't like to get a birthday card in the mail or in your inbox?
One of the best uses of Send Out Cards I have seen was by Michael Katz (who introduced me to the program.) He set up a series of 10 marketing tips. I got a card each month for 10 months with wonderful solo-entrepreneur tips on ways to market. I really looked forward to getting them and was sorry when my series ended. (Which reminds me to get off my laurels and develop my own series.)
For me, getting new clients and colleagues is all about developing the relationship. There is not one method on which you should solely rely. The tools in my basket include social media, email marketing, speaking, and even the old-fashioned card in the mail. Make sure you have many tools in your basket. Want to talk more about your tools?
